Athlete Michael Currie from Thompsonville in Area 2 (Antrim, Leelanau, Kalkaska, Benzie and Grand Traverse Counties) is heading to National Games in July. Michael will be competing in aquatics. He’s getting some special training thanks to a generous Traverse City business. Michael has been training at FAST Physical Therapy/FAST Fitness since late last fall. Michael trains twice a week, every week, with Keith Bandli, ATC from FAST. The training is being provided by FAST at no cost to Michael or his family. FAST is also sponsoring a monthly TV segment on 9&10 News and Fox 32 News showcasing Michael and his training on the road to National Games.
“He’s strong as an ox, he’s stronger than me,” said Keith about training Michael. Keith is helping Michael increase his power, core strength, and upper body strength.
Mike enjoys training at FAST and says, “I like getting stronger and like the nice people and nice equipment.”
Keith is targeting Michael’s core, a spot where he says Michael lacks strength. He hopes a stronger core will help Michael become stronger and faster for competition and give him more endurance when he competes in swimming. “I think it’s great to be able to provide Mike things that he needs that he doesn’t have the resources for. I love doing it. It’s a rewarding experience to work with him,” Keith said.
